Alberta undecided as Ontario, Quebec nix royal holiday

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that federally regulated employees will have a holiday on Sept. 19, the day of the late Queen of Canada’s funeral. The PM also pledged to work with provinces to make the day a statutory holiday for the vast majority of workers, including in retail, who are covered by provincial regulations. Ontario and Quebec have already declined, while in Alberta a spokesperson for Premier Jason Kenney’s office said the government is considering the proposal.
