NATIONAL REPORT — High demand and supply-chain hiccups are combining to create a shortage of appliances that could last into next year, CBC News reports. As homeowners reimagine their spaces with life outside restricted during the pandemic, manufacturers are struggling to obtain parts and to maintain production rates with heightened safety protocols.
“We’ve never had more backorders in our history,” Jason Goemans, president of Goemans Appliances, told the CBC. “We’ve got thousands of backorders now because of surging demand. Whoever has stock right now is king.” Wait times are mounting while choices of products are becoming more limited, he said, adding the “supply and demand struggle” is likely to continue into the first or second quarter of 2021.
