Lowe’s Canada president prepares for his arrival

BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — The arrival of Lowe’s Canada’s new president, Tony Hurst, is subject to the issuance of his work visa, which is expected in February, Le Journal de Montréal reports. “He does not speak French at the moment but he understands the importance of being able to communicate with employees in both official languages and will make learning French a priority,” spokesperson Valérie Gonzalo explained. “He has moreover begun his [language] courses recently.” Hurst’s appointment was not a surprise to staff at the Boucherville head office after he visited for a few days last month; it suggests that Lowe’s Cos. is looking to keep a tighter rein on its Canadian business. The continuation of the RONA banner, however, is a given, Gonzalo stressed.
