Quebec First Nations reopen store under Castle

Castle Building Centres has welcomed Quincaillerie Shipek in Longue Pointe de Mingan, Que., as the newest Castle Centre du Rénovation.

Four years after Mingan’s original hardware store closed, the Pekuashipi and Ekuanitshit Innu Nations have acquired the business. They appointed GM Guy Vigneault, who undertook its reopening and re-branding.

“Our local residents had to travel over 40 km to find the nearest store and quite often could not find what they needed,” Vigneault said in a release. “I decided to reopen the store and make lumber, building materials, and hardware more accessible.” He added that joining Castle “gives us independence and access to many products.”

Quincaillerie Shipek will celebrate a grand opening in the late summer.
