Sexton CEO: reno market could continue during COVID-19 crisis

WINNIPEG — While dealers cope with how to manage their customers and their staff in their local markets, retail leaders across the country are coping with the concerns of their dealers in a more generalized way. One big concern, especially for dealers supplying new builds, is how long the construction sector will stay active.

Steve Buckle, CEO of the Sexton family of companies, which includes Winnipeg-based Sexton Group, says many of his dealers could face challenges if big projects get curtailed. For example, the province of Quebec has now put an end to all non-essential construction.

One bright light amidst the COVID-19 crisis, however, could be the persistence of renovation activity, Buckle notes. Dealers supplying this sector must adjust their business practices. “The challenge becomes, how do you keep your people safe?” he says.
