Surprise decline in U.S. retail sales

WASHINGTON — U.S. retail sales in February saw an unexpected third monthly decrease, according to the latest U.S. Commerce Department data. Overall sales declined by 0.1%, the same percentage as in January, while December’s loss was also revised to the same figure. The results suggest spending is cooling following a busy fourth quarter.
