U.S. retail sales rose by 1.7 percent in October, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. The prospect of shortages and supply chain issues has many consumers turning out early for their holiday shopping. September’s increase was revised slightly to 0.8 percent from the original estimate of 0.7 percent.
