BENTONVILLE, Ark. ― Wal-Mart is reaching out to the sharing economy with an experiment in app-based delivery for grocery orders, testing Uber drivers in Phoenix and Lyft drivers in Denver within the next two weeks, Bloomberg reports. E-commerce COO Michael Bender made the announcement in a statement following on the company’s trial in March using Deliv to ship Sam’s Club orders in Miami. The move is part of the retail giant’s strategy to remain competitive with Amazon’s own grocery delivery service: it will cost customers an additional $7 to $10 dollars per order. Wal-Mart has already rolled out delivery in Denver as well as in San Jose, Calif.
