OTTAWA — Willmar Windows founder Bill Fast is among the latest appointees to the Order of Canada, with the rank of Member. Governor General Julie Payette’s office made the announcement at the end of last week. Fast got his start in the window business working for his father-in-law at Allmar Distributors. He and his wife Margaret bought Allmar’s window division in 1970, renaming it Willmar (from William and Margaret).

Jeld-Wen bought the business in 1997 and continues to manufacture the Willmar Collection of windows. Fast’s Order of Canada citation is “for his leading business acumen and for his philanthropic commitment to disadvantaged communities in Canada.” A ceremony will be planned for a later date to present the order’s insignia to the new Companions, Officers and Members.
