OTTAWA — Housing starts in August reached 223,232 units seasonally adjusted, according to new Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp. data, up 0.5% from 221,974 units in July. Urban starts increased by 0.8% seasonally adjusted to 207,524 units. Multiple urban starts increased by 2.7% to 145,618 units. Single-detached urban starts decreased by 3.2% to 61,906 units.
