Rock and Roll Hall of Fame laureate Tom Petty died yesterday after going into cardiac arrest at his Malibu, Calif. home. The frontman of the Heartbreakers remained loyal to the band even after finding solo success with hits like “I Won’t Back Down.” The group had just wound up a 40th anniversary tour begun in the spring, which Petty acknowledged in a December Rolling Stone interview would likely be his last, citing the arrival of his granddaughter.
