Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee has died at 95. Lee was known for infusing his superhero characters, which included Spider-Man, X-Men and the Hulk, with a humanity not previously typical of genre. With the rise of major Hollywood film franchises based on comics, Lee’s returns on his work remained modest. Though he settled a suit against Columbia over his share of the profits from 2002’s Spider-Man, as a child of the Depression, he professed himself “happy enough to get a nice pay cheque and be treated well.” Former U.S. President George W. Bush presented Lee with the National Medal of Arts in 2008.
