MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Lowe’s Cos. will hire some 2,000 software engineers in the coming years as it seeks to ramp up its online presence and close the gap with rival Home Depot. Speaking to analysts and investors last week, CEO Marvin Ellison described the crash of Lowe’s U.S. site on Black Friday as “embarrassing” but emblematic of the technical problems store staff face daily. Ellison said the company hasn’t yet determined where the new positions will be based. “You should anticipate the Charlotte area will be a beneficiary of some of these and other staff additions,” said spokesperson Jackie Pardini Hartzell by email.
