BURLINGTON Ont. — IKEA Canada has appointed Michael Ward as president (country retail manager) to lead the banner in Canada. Transitioning from his global role as regional retail manager, Ward officially stepped into his new role on January 1. “Having begun my IKEA career in Mississauga, over 30 years ago, it is a huge privilege to return home to lead the Canadian organization,” he said in a release. Ward’s history with the company began with a one-year internship in 1986; since then he has held leadership roles in Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States. He takes over from Marsha Smith, who is joining the management team of IKEA UK and Ireland.
