MINNEAPOLIS — Target has inked a lease here for its smallest store yet, a 20,000 square-foot TargetExpress location. At about a fifth the size of the average Target store, the smaller format is meant to ease the banner’s entry into dense urban markets like New York City, where 100,000 square-foot lots are few and far between. The company also hopes to attract a younger urban shopper, and to that end the first TargetExpress will be located close to University of Minnesota housing, The New York Times reports.
