NEW DELHI — In the latest episode in Wal-Mart’s long march to establishing a presence in India, the company has registered with the subcontinental republic’s corporate affairs ministry. “Wal-Mart India Private Ltd” takes the place of the joint venture between the parent company and India’s Bharti Enterprises, which dissolved their relationship in the fall. Wal-Mart has ramped up its efforts to expand into India since the government loosened foreign ownership restrictions, but its path has been a winding one, as the Times of India chronicles.
