SPECIAL REPORT — Quebec’s hardware stores no longer have to close on Sundays beginning next weekend, an earlier-than-expected end to a measure put in place for the month of April and then extended through May. The province had ordered all but a handful of businesses to close Sundays in order to give employees a break. In Ontario, retailers can open their doors to in-person customers today as the province enters its first stage of reopening. Previously, most were limited to offering curbside pickup.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island will allow non-essential retail stores including gardening centres to open on Friday as it enters Phase 2 of its economic reopening. British Columbia transitions to its own Phase 2 starting today, with restaurants, cultural and leisure activities and personal grooming services permitted to reopen.
