OTTAWA — Governor General Julie Payette delivered the Speech from the Throne yesterday, outlining the Trudeau government’s priorities for the new parliamentary session. They include exceeding Canada’s climate goals for 2030. “As part of its plan, the government will create thousands of jobs retrofitting homes and buildings, cutting energy costs for Canadian families and businesses,” the Queen’s official Canadian representative told a distanced audience of senators, MPs and other dignitaries. In the last federal election, the two largest parties both promised to boost green home renovations, the Liberals through interest-free loans and the Conservatives by means of a new tax credit.
