EDMONTON — Target’s arrival in Canada boosted consumer choice, but also set off a scramble by grocers for market share that could have negative effects for shoppers, the Canadian Press reports. As vendors compete to bring prices down, in-store services and research could fall by the wayside, and product quality could suffer. “In order to get those lower prices you’re going to see an increase in things that improve efficiency, but they may not improve the quality of the product or even the shopping experience,” says University of Alberta retail expert Kyle Murray.
