Store employees complain of customer rage

With the pandemic now in its second year, some consumers’ patience is wearing thin and front-line workers say many are taking it out on the employees, La Presse reports.

“The relationship with the customer is always on the line,” says Nadege Chiron, who works at a Montreal RONA Entrepôt. “All it takes is for them to get a little frustrated, for us to have a little lapse, and they can immediately get upset.”

Workers at two corporate stores in Montreal voted last weekend for a five-day strike mandate, demanding measures such as signing outlining a zero-tolerance policy toward aggressive behaviour. Responding on behalf of Lowe’s Canada, a spokesperson said the company does not tolerate such behaviour at any of its stores but added that “we continue to negotiate in good faith with the union.”
