Western provinces show greatest sales growth during COVID

Despite economic challenges of their own, the two provinces that experienced the greatest growth in retail home improvement sales in 2020 were Alberta and Saskatchewan. The numbers suggest that those regions have bottomed out and maybe seeing a correction in the wake of the fallout from the decline in the energy sector. The Western provinces overall showed greater growth than either Atlantic or Central Canada.

These are just some of the findings in Hardlines’ Annual Retail Report. The massive study, which will be available soon, includes a breakdown of the growth the industry saw during the pandemic and also identifies and ranks the top 20 retail players in the sector. The four leading groups are analyzed in-depth to explain strategies, competitive advantages, and expansion plans.
