U.S. retail sales fall by more than expected

U.S. retail sales edged down by 1.1 percent in July, the U.S. Commerce Department said this week. In a Reuters poll, economists projected a drop of just 0.3 percent. At the same time, June’s numbers were revised upward slightly, from a 0.6 percent to a 0.7 percent increase.
