Retail sales increased 0.9 percent to $60.7-billion in April, according to the latest StatCan data. Sales were up in six of 11 subsectors, led by higher sales at general merchandise stores. The largest decline to retail sales came from building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers. The 4.3 percent decrease was the first in four months.
