Housing starts edge up in July

The annualized pace of housing starts in July was 275,329 units, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., an increase of 1.1 percent from June. The rate of total urban starts decreased by 0.8 percent to 254,371, with single-detached urban starts down 2.3 percent to 58,384 units. Rural starts were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 20,958 units.
