Home Hardware has issued an open letter to Canadians, thanking those who have “helped make Home Hardware a true Canadian success story,” adding that the firm “prides itself on being Canadian.” The letter recalls the modest origins of the familiar retailer, when Walter J. Hachborn and Henry Sittler banded together 122 independent retailers in the St. Jacobs, Ont., area in 1964. It has since grown to nearly 1,100 stores with some $5.4 billion dollars in sales. l-r: Walter Hachborn hoist’s Canada’s flag with Home’s CEO Terry Davis.
