The value of building permits in Canada fell by four percent in January to $9.8 billion, StatCan reports. There were eight provinces that reported decreases in January, with the multi-residential sector in British Columbia significantly contributing to the national fall. Residential permits decreased 6.6 percent to $6.1 billion, with seven provinces posting decreases. Total permit values for single-family homes decreased 4.4 percent in January, with the largest impact coming from Quebec’s 13.5 percent drop.
