Bed Bath & Beyond will no longer redeem gift cards or rewards points after March 9. Under normal circumstances, provincial consumer protection measures preclude an expiration for gift cards. When a company applies for bankruptcy protection, however, cardholders join the ranks of unsecured creditors. Insolvency lawyer Geoffrey Dabs told CBC News that courts are generally deferential to the deadlines companies propose. Bed Bath & Beyond confirmed that it had pushed the cut-off to March 9 from an initial deadline of Feb. 25.
