The Retail Council of Canada gave a mixed review to the Trudeau government’s new budget. Acknowledging that the document “contains a number of initiatives to address affordability challenges facing Canadian families,” the council pointed to two of its proposals not taken up by the government: cuts to credit card interchange rates and a sales tax rebate for tourists. For its part, Quebec industry group AQMAT welcomed the clean energy incentives but decried a lack of action on the housing crisis.
