For small business owners, “Eight Days a Week” isn’t a love song but a challenging reality, according to a study by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. It found that labour shortages have pushed the average small business owner to a workweek equivalent to eight days, or up to 54 hours. “Owners have to work more hours, or they have to choose to have their employees work more hours,” said CFIB economist and co-author Laure-Anna Bomal.
