Organized crime shoplifting is growing: Home Depot VP

Last week, ABC News ran a story about organized criminals who are targeting home improvement stores, shoplifting big-ticket items—which are then sold online for massive profits. Shoplifting attributable to organized crime is growing double-digit year over year, Scott Glenn, The Home Depot’s VP of asset protection, told ABC.

Shoplifting is, of course, a concern for any operator of a retail store. But last year, brazen criminals, working for criminal gangs, killed two U.S.-based Home Depot employees—in separate incidents—who had tried to prevent thefts. One of them was 83 years old; the other 26.
