In memoriam: Vaughn Crofford

Vaughn Crofford died this past weekend of cancer at the Ajax Hospital in Ajax, Ont. Born in 1949 in Craik, Sask., he began his career in the late 1960s at the Federated Co-op in Salmon Arm, B.C. He eventually moved to FCL’s head office in Saskatoon as part of a management team charged with turning around the hardware department. He was eventually named marketing director. Crofford remained with FCL until 1994, when he moved east to head up the Canadian Hardware & Housewares Manufacturers Association (the predecessor to the Canadian Home Products Trade Association).

Crofford was inducted into the Industry Hall of Fame prior to his retirement in 2018. He is survived by his partner Maureen Hizaka, who retired as CHHMA’s operations director in 2018, as well as his daughters Susan (Ryan) and Sandra (Jamie), and his grandson, Austin Vaughn Kerr.
