Workers from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union are heading back to picket lines after the union rejected a tentative agreement announced last week. Strike activity began on July 1, with the union pointing to concerns over automation and the use of contract workers. In the face of calls by industry groups and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for back-to-work legislation, labour minister Seamus O’Regan insisted the best deal had been devised through the third-party mediation process.
