Throwback Thursday: 20 years ago, TruServ Canada opened its Kitchener, Ont. DC

Throwback Thursday is a weekly feature in which we dip into the Hardlines Weekly Report archives.

On Aug. 25, 2003, Hardlines reported that Truserv had unveiled its new DC in Ontario. We wrote…

“It’s a long way from Winnipeg, but that’s just the point of TruServ Canada establishing a new distribution centre in Southwestern Ontario. With the addition of more than 100 retail customers through its acquisition of Growmark’s retail business in Ontario at the beginning of 2003, TruServ wants to beef up its presence in Eastern Canada and position itself as a full-line distributor.”

The 240,000-square-foot DC would have a 14-year run. It was closed, along with the TruServ Winnipeg DC, in 2017, by RONA. RONA had bought TruServ back in 2010 and in 2014 started encouraging Tru dealers to switch to Ace, whose banner rights it had acquired in Canada. The work of both DCs was allocated to other Lowe’s/RONA facilities.
