Walmart hits competition with price cuts

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Canada will make sacrifices from its bottom line in order to boost its sales volume, according to Report on Business. The retailer, which on Thursday posted a 0.2% sales gain in stores open over a year, nevertheless saw operating profits down thanks to lower prices and a focus on lower-margin grocery items. At the same time, the company reported a “triple-digit jump” in online sales, an area analysts say will continue to give Wal-Mart an edge over Target.
