The low price of building materials is good news for Quebec consumers but not for renovation centres, AQMAT chief Richard Darveau (pictured) has told Le Journal de Québec. “There are more permanent closures of hardware stores than ever. Unfortunately there are family businesses who, short on resources, will sell their store for a piece of bread.”
Prices, he explained, are higher than in 2019 but significantly lower than their pandemic spike, while the average basket value has dropped as homeowners focus on small repairs over large projects.
