OTTAWA — Housing starts rose in November to 195,620 units seasonally adjusted, from 183,659 in October, a 6.5% increase. Urban starts increased to 176,343 in November, from 164,784 in October, with most of the growth from multiple-urban starts, which went from 99,108 units to 112,583 units. Single-detached urban starts actually decreased to 63,760 units from 65,676 in October. Growth in urban starts was led by British Columbia and Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada, while urban housing starts decreased in the Prairies.
