BROCKVILLE, Ont. — A 3M plant in eastern Ontario will manufacture N95 masks as part of a deal with the federal and Ontario governments to split production costs three ways, a total investment of at least $70 million. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford are expected to make an official announcement this afternoon. The agreement will give Canada an important domestic supply of the respirator masks, freeing it from its dependence on U.S. and Chinese manufacturers. Both governments have also entered into long-term purchasing agreements with 3M. Ottawa’s plan to boost production of personal protective equipment, announced in March, has been slow in execution. The plan includes the construction of an N95 production line in Montreal.
