ATIS files for creditor protection

Door and window maker ATIS has announced the closures of its Terrebonne, Que., plant and 19 outlets in the province as it seeks creditor protection. Its management says it has not thrown in the towel but is working to restructure so as to return to profitability. “We really want to refocus our activities within the entrepreneurial, distribution, and commercial sales market segment and move away from direct sales to consumers,” said Sophie Marquis, VP of human resources and communications.

Richard Darveau, president of the Quebec industry group AQMAT, noted that the company had stretched itself thin with nine acquisitions between 2014 and 2017. “That was several bites to swallow in a short period of time,” he commented.
