BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — Lowe’s Canada has revealed it will close 34 stores across the country. Most of the closings will be effective January 31, 2020. The move comes following what the company calls a detailed strategic review of its operations to improve performance and better position itself for the future. The closings consist of Lowe’s and RONA stores across the country, plus the Reno-Depot in Trois-Rivières, Que.
Lowe’s Canada will also undertake a process to simplify multiple store banners, “to drive efficiency and reduce operational complexity”, it said in a release.
“While making decisions that impact our associates and their families is never easy, closing under-performing stores is a necessary step in our plan to ensure the long-term stability and growth of our Canadian business,” said Tony Cioffi, interim president of Lowe’s Canada.
Further changes will continue at head office, as well. These include reorganizing the corporate support structure across the country and rationalizing product assortments to present a more coordinated offering to Canadian customers.
