Bricks and mortar still dominate Boxing Day

TORONTO — Canadian shoppers lined up to take advantage of Boxing Week sales, in spite of a push by e-retailers beginning as early as Christmas Eve. Target made its debut with some major appliances at up to 40% off. Future Shop also saw queues forming by nightfall on Christmas Day.

More and more, Canadian retailers have been seizing on the American sales tradition of Black Friday, but being a statutory holiday, Boxing Day will always have a place for Canadian shoppers, Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s general manager told the Financial Post.
