MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Walmart Canada will charge 5¢ for plastic bags from February 9, the Canadian Press reports, while reusable bags will be available for 25¢ each. The move is part of the company’s strategy to reduce landfill usage. Walmart pointed to the success of similar initiatives in other countries, as well as in select markets such as Toronto, where the retailer has been able to halve plastic bag use. A portion of the fees collected will be contributed to recycling initiatives.
