MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Castle Building Centres has announced the addition of its latest member, in Newfoundland and Labrador. Benjamin “Trapper Ben” Powell founded both the town of Charlottetown, Labrador, itself and then in 1946 his B.W. Powell store. Beginning as one of Labrador’s first sawmills it has since expanded into a general store. In addition to being the town’s LBM and hardware source but also its supplier of fuel and the site of its Canada Post desk. Benjamin’s children Marie and Irving assumed ownership in 1992, and are joining Castle in order to boost their buying power and profits.
