CFIB counters pandemic rush to big boxes

Sixty percent of Canadians say they have spent less at small businesses and more at big boxes and major e-retailers since the onset of the pandemic. That’s among the findings of a survey conducted by Maru/Matchbox for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. At the same time, 87 percent of respondents said they would like to do more to support their local merchants.

To aid that effort, the CFIB is bringing back its #SmallBusinessEveryDay contest for a second year. Consumers can visit SmallBusinessEveryDay.ca to send a note of thanks to a small business. The message will be forwarded to the business and the writer entered into a draw for a prize of $2,000 in cash plus gift cards. The business nominated by the winner receives $10,000 plus gift cards.
