Montreal-based Dollarama has racked up 11 of the 53 citations issued by Quebec’s workplace safety agency, the CNESST, before the Christmas holidays. The infraction notices, logged in a report obtained by La Presse, all date from a one-month period from mid-November to mid-December. The CNESST announced in January that it had visited 68 Dollarama stores and issued 124 cautions where remedial measures were needed. All but 11 of those cases, involving nine stores, were rectified.
In an email to La Presse, a Dollarama spokesperson said the discount retailer was “surprised and disappointed to be targeted in this way.” According to the documents, the company has not yet indicated whether it is contesting the fines.
