STELLARTON, N.S. — Sobeys customers in the Greater Toronto Area can access Empire Co.’s new e-commerce service, Voilà, beginning today. The company began testing the program in late April as demand accelerated amidst the ongoing pandemic. It is already anticipating that initial demand will be three times greater than originally expected. “We had a pretty aggressive plan, but we thought it might take a while for people to find us,” Empire CEO Michael Medline told the Globe & Mail during a tour of Voilà’s 250,000-square-foot fulfillment centre in Vaughan, Ont. A second facility is planned for Montreal, to fulfil orders for the IGA banner in Quebec.
