LONGUEUIL — A general strike involving some 170,000 workers in Quebec has AQMAT concerned about under-the-table work. “For workers, the temptation will be strong not to be on the picket lines all day but to go to work without declaring it,” President Richard Darveau remarked. “The temptation will be equally strong for consumers to hire a worker ‘under the table’ under the impression that it’s a good deal, which isn’t the case.” Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, currently on an economic mission in Israel, confirmed that a special law will be introduced in the National Assembly if “rapid” progress isn’t made in resolving the strike.
