TORONTO — Hudson’s Bay Co. has announced it will close all 37 of its Home Outfitters stores in Canada by the end of this year. A company spokesperson told the CBC that almost all areas served by the housewares banner also have a nearby Bay store. “Further streamlining our retail portfolio enables even greater focus on our businesses with the strongest growth opportunities,” CEO Helena Foulkes said in a statement. “We know this news is difficult for our associates. We are grateful for their ongoing efforts to serve our customers and we will work to find opportunities within HBC for impacted team members where possible.” At the same time, the company revealed it will conduct a “fleet review” of its Saks OFF 5th banner, which will likely lead to the closure of some 20 U.S. stores.
