The annualized rate of housing starts in April was 267,330 units, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., an increase of eight percent from March. The rate of total urban starts increased by 10 percent to 245,324 units in April. Multi-unit urban starts increased by 14 percent to 178,092 units while single-detached urban starts increased by one percent to 67,232 units. Rural starts were estimated at a rate of 22,006 units.
