OTTAWA — Housing starts climbed to 201,705 units seasonally adjusted in May, up 10% from 183,329 units in April, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. The SAAR of urban starts increased by 10.8% in May to 185,235 units. Multi-unit urban starts increased by 16.9% to 126,367 units,driven mainly by activity in Ontario. The single-detached urban starts segment essentially held steady at 58,868 units. Urban starts increased in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec, while they decreased in British Columbia and the Prairies.
