Betty White, the “first lady of television”, died on New Year’s Eve, just over two weeks from what would have been her 100th birthday. The comedian and animal welfare advocate was the first woman to produce a sitcom and an early champion of on-screen racial integration.
Known for her roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, White garnered accolades including eight Emmy Awards and a Grammy. She was predeceased by her third husband, Password host Allen Ludden.
